Understanding ADHD and Neurodiversity: A Personal Journey

Hi my name is Brittany. I’m 27 and have been diagnosed with ADHD the age of 7. I’ve heard on TikTok about people with ADHD being neuro divergent and also chasing the dopamine what does all that mean though?

So neurodivergent just means our brains work differently. Chasing the dopamine is what a lot of adhd people do. It just means we tend to pick up hobbies and interests very quickly and be excited about them, but grow bored just as fast.

Life long ADHD person here. ( was diagnosed at age 5. Now nearly 30. ) Neurodivergent is, to simply put it, a made up tik tok trend. In my 25 years of treatment/therapy has any doctor/specialist/therapist ever mentioned anything about it. ADHD and similar mental illnesses/neurological disorders have become somewhat of “internet trends” over the past few years. People have even gone as far as to fake symptoms for views. Unless an actual doctor/specialist/therapist has told you about this, just chalk it up to the internet being the internet.
