ADHD and Artificial Colors The research on the link between artificial colors like Yellow 5, Yellow 4, Red 40, Red 102 scares me bcs I wear make up nearly everyday. I do try my best to go for the cleanest products but sometimes it’s not feasible (I found ONE good quality mascara without talc recently) or I just get really sad about not being able to have that perfect lip product because of the tar colors. Do you all care about the food dyes and tar colors? Do you think the research needs more work or it holds enough credibility by this point?

i'd never heard about this, but i just did a little bit of research and i think you're fine! the research was only done on children, and while they seemed very certain that dyes have adverse effects on behavior and hyperactivity, the actual findings were less aggressive. basically, for some of the studies, some kids were more hyperactive on days they had dye. in other studies, there were no conclusive findings. there also tends to be a lot less dye in "adult" food, especially if you're being mindful of your consumption. i'd say if you're concerned, why not try your own study? try going dye-free, then reintroduce dyes and see if you notice a difference!

I think the correlation between dye and health is legit. I haven't done the research. I browsed a few journals. I plan to look further into it for the sake of my 11 year old to convince his dad to be more careful about his diet

everything in moderation is fine! it's obviously really nice that you're taking the time to research what's best for you and your body, but don't let "cleanliness" stop you from enjoying a product. go for as clean as you can
