So today I had an appointment with my psychiatrist and after 3 years of convincing him I need a stimulant because it really helped me from ages3-13 he finally put me back on them. Well I told my dad expecting some praise for doing what’s right for me but instead being told that “you aren’t good on stimulants”. The only reason I was taken off of them in the first place was because I was an angry 13 year old girl and they blamed it on my medication. I’m 21 years old and still my parents try to control my medications. I’m so lost.

I'm 20 and 8 months ago my mother decided to stop paying for my 5 year medication because I "didn't need it." I attempted suicide that month and she's still not taking my health seriously. Screw your dad, you know what's best for you.

I swear to all things, parents always think that they're the True and Final source of All Knowledge. Being older (and therefore having more life experience) certainly has its advantages, but when it comes to medication the ONLY people who should be allowed to change it are you and your doctor. Especially as an adult, you're fully capable or making your own decisions. I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I wish you luck. <3
@Aselyn thank you so much! I’m glad to know I’m not wrong for thinking it should be my decision as well as my doctor’s decision.

@MaddieDanielsen Of course! As an adult, anything that you consult your doctor about is a decision to be made between the two of you. No one else can make that decision. Much love <3

@KeiXyr my mom is currently trying to make me pay $100 each month for me being on her insurance to cover my medical bills since I now have a full time job and don’t qualify for Medicaid anymore. I’m still under 25 so I don’t understand how I have to pay to be on her insurance. Thank you so much for sharing and I hope you find coverage for your medication!
