After suffering a more progressive pain in my left outside ankle for almost 10 years, I was finally correctly diagnosed with a tarsal coalition thru an MRI. My ability to walk for any long distance or stand for on an uneven hard surface was causing more and longer pain. I went through steroid injections, anesthetic injections, physical therapy, foot orthotics with no real comfort. I had an electric nerve stimulator placed thru surgery in my ankle ( Stimrouter by Bioness) which provided some basic pain relief while walking and standing. This eventually failed due to an adverse reaction of the adhesive agent used on the skin for the Stimrouter battery pack. Next I was referred to a surgeon at MASS GENERAL in Boston and went thru a procedure where the Sural nerve was cut and reattached to a muscle in my left calf. This surgery was completed 8 months ago and the pain relief has been good and is getting less noticeable as the months go by. Has anyone else tried to lower the pain thru exercise or anti inflammatory diet foods - berries, nuts, greens, no animal products or processed foods? If anyone is out there with a similar tarsal coalition diagnosis, I would like to share ideas with you. Best regards, Washashore

I wonder why they haven't done this surgery for you already? Granted it was a long recovery but so worth it. Also for us the tarsal coalition causes a tight muscle in the calf so stretching it helps a lot

I also had a tarsal coalition as well as my sister and a bunch of our extended family as it runs in our family. We all go to Dr. Most in Chesterland Ohio as he knows how to diagnose and treat it. He did our surgeries removing the extra growth between the bones and then placed two screws in each foot. That plus physical therapy after the surgery is what took the pain away for me
