For those who deal with hormonal acne, what has been the most successful treatment for you? I have had acne for all of my teen and adult life. For the past year or so, I’ve been getting bad cystic acne under my jaw and in my neck, usually deep in the skin, and it stays there for months. I have tried topical treatments, like different and clindamycin, different skincare products, like face washes, exfoliates, and am currently taking spironolactone. But nothing seems to be working. I also avoid sugar and dairy. Any insights?

I probably sound crazy. But I started taking a probiotic daily and it really helped keep my acne at bay. It’s pretty much zero risk to try it, and if it helps, great!

I am on the two same meds - I was also on ampicillin for some time (but it’s an antibiotic so I had to stop after a while) the Spironolactone has worked well for me. Not sure but I really wish you the best

I feel you. Mine keeps coming no matter what i do. Although when i took spironolactone it helped- but came back after i stopped taking it. It took a while to kick in and start working though, so maybe keep trying if you haven’t been on it long? with deep cystic stuff caused by hormones the only way to stop it is by cutting off whatever issue is going on inside the body and limit external triggers that could be making it worse. Everyone’s skin/situation is different but mine is super sensitive so right now i’m focussing on a few things listed below, so maybe sharing might help!! Skin stuff - finding clean products that don’t clog your skin (non-comedogenic). This goes for makeup, makeup removers, cleansers, sunscreen, laundry detergents etc. *don’t overlook laundry detergents - gel cleansers ( i use Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser), no foaming cleansers - only chemical exfoliants, and make sure to exfoliate like 2x week as your face allows - washing your face twice a day for at least a minute rubbing gently in circles, and really taking time to wash it off - always oil cleansing after makeup Diet I’m currently working on lowering my sugar intake too- especially around the time of the month before my period when it gets really sensitive. But more importantly always eating sugar/carbs with some some sort of protein. Plus just making sure im getting enough vitamins/nutrients or whatever and drinking water of course If you want any more skincare product recs just lmk and i can list what’s been good so far
