Any one here been on Accutane? I’m currently on Sprionolactone/Tretinoin combo for the second time to help with my cystic acne, which I’ve dealt with for many years. The first time I went on this combo four years ago (when I was 18 or 19), my skin got much worse initially, then cleared up completely. I’d never seen my skin looking so healthy since I started dealing with acne in middle school (cue biggg boost in my self esteem). I stopped taking the pill when I studied abroad, and within 6 months all my cystic acne came back. I’m now on it for the second time and it’s working slowly, but I worry that if I was to go off it again everything would come again. The spiro pill makes me incredibly dizzy and I don’t want to be on it forever. I’ve heard accutane is really the only permanent solution for people with persistent, prolonged acne. What were your experiences with accutane? Did it work for you? Is it worth it? Are there other solutions I should try before I try accutane?

Accutane was the only thing that helped my severe cystic acne. I tried all the creams, pills, facial treatments, etc. and nothing worked. Accutane took a toll on me physically, and it sucks to go get blood tests every month, but it was SOOO worth it. I would 100% recommend it to anybody struggling with stubborn painful acne. I went from not leaving the house (even to go to a gas station) without a full face of foundation, concealer and powders, to going completely bare faced and not feeling ashamed of my skin!

Literally best decision I ever made was to start accutane. Highly recommend. About to finish in a month and so happy with the results. Side effects were moderate at worst, and even then it was only for bits of time and then they went away

I am in the exact same boat! Recurring cystic acne that come back if I stop taking spironolactone and doxycycline. I’m also using differin gel and that’s been helping too with more surface level stuff! I’ve been considering accutane as well im a little hesitant as I know it can have some side effects and doesn’t necessarily guarantee you won’t have acne again.
