I was recently diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa binge-purge subtype (presenting with restriction of food for over 10 years but only engage in binging behaviors in the past year), and I wondered if anyone else has received this diagnosis despite no purging behaviors. I thought for a while that I would be diagnosed with BED, but I guess restriction plays a role in it as well

Hi there, I actually had ANBP too except I didn’t have any binging behaviors, just restriction & purging. In terms of diagnostics, there are only a certain number of characteristics which lead to diagnosis; you don’t have to have every single behavior in order for it to be that specific diagnosis. BED & AN are so closely intertwined for many people & it is a slippery slope to go from engaging in one behavior to another. My advice would be not to dwell too much on your diagnosis, but to focus on validating for yourself that you are sick enough & deserving of recovery regardless of what your specific diagnosis & behaviors are. Sending love to you! 💛
