Hi, is there anyone in the uk who has or is currently assessing the adult mental health services please? I really could use some advice if possible please. TRIGGER WARNING - VOICES extremely long story as short as i can get it....... for the last 10 years I have been trying and has my gp to get the mental health services to support me. I have a long list of mental health conditions all diagnosed before the last 10 years. I was seeing a psychiatrist regularly but the service where I live where having a change around so they couldn't see me for 6 months but would see me again afterwards. Well from then on I must have been referred back in well over 150 times from a range of health professionals. But when I very rarely get an assessment from them they just tell me I don't need their help. I have experienced things like my voices gaining control which led to me being unable to take my meds. plus lots and lots more quite serious reasons. I don't want to go to into detail as I don't want to trigger anyone. I am a single parent and my children also have a lot of mental health and physical health conditions. I am also physically disabled so as you can imagine it's not easy. my gp thinks I have cyclothymia and it needs medicating so my moods are more stable. but I need the mental health team to see if they agree and sort out meds. I'm just worried that they will just do the same again and brush it off like it's nothing. I don't understand what I need to do to get some help and support. I have never shouted, sworn or been disrespectful to any of their staff so I just do not understand why this keeps happening. if anyone has any ideas, please could you comment and let me know. thank you so much for reading x

The only self referral mental health service I can think of is IAPT but again it's very much post code lottery. I really hope you get sorted soon though, the NHS is an absolute mess ATM getting help is so difficult for a lot of us.

@jacque87 the service is completely broken. The children's services are so much worse, I definitely agree with you there. I feel so stuck I can't get help for my kids of which I have been trying since my eldest, who is now 19, was 4 years old. The kids have been in and put of the service and we are no closer to them getting better. I was told in the same sentence that my youngest would definitely get bpd (which is one of my diagnoses too) if she didn't get the help she needed. Then followed that with we are discharging her now! I mean WHAT!!!! x

One user shared their experience with mental health services in the UK, mentioning that they had been referred to a psychiatrist and psychologist after waiting for an assessment for 3 years. They also mentioned frustration with the waiting time and not knowing what support they would receive. It seems that getting help from mental health services can be challenging and may require persistence and patience.
