So I’m 22, and I’ve been diabetic since I was 12. So 10 years. I’ve never had a pump, or the opportunity for one. I finally have a freestyle libre that I’ve been using for about two years not. But I was wondering how it is to have a pump? What your A1C was when you got yours? And what kind you have/would recommend? All feedback is appreciated!

Ok I have been told since 2007 that I was a T2 well I found out this yr that I have always been a T1 so before I found out I have been on many pills and shots I was taking up to 8 shots a day just to keep it down my A1C was 21.2 and my bs was 1,329, they put me on the pump and in just 2 months my A1C was down to 10.5 and my bs is normal almost all the time except when I forget to put my carbs in my pump for my extra insulin if needed which is about 10% of the time. My insulin pump is called Medtronic and I use the freestyle libre system and absolutely love it

I’m type one since the age of 5 so 33 years I just started my pump this year maybe 8 months ago and just switched from the Omnipod dash to the Omnipod 5… I love it more time in range more stable levels less lows and highs … I can eat and drink what I want… I been on the dexcom maybe a year love the control I have with The two … I highly recommend if ur insurance allows it…

This is my story, too! I was diagnosed at 10, did shots for a decade, and then switched to a pump in 2018. I was 20. I've been on the Medtronic system since! My A1C is definitely lower which is amazing since I was in college and female hormones from 18-24 are WHACK! I've really appreciated the greater flexibility, toting around less supplies, and the greater control over my care. I think there's totally a time and place for shots and for pumps, but I have really loved these last couple years with a pump!

just be careful! Depending on which state you live in, certain insurances won't cover Dexcom supplies. I lived in Idaho and my insurance did cover them there so I got to experience how wonderful the Tandem and Control IQ is. But I moved to Colorado in April and my insurance won't cover them here. So I'm back to poking and manually entering my sugars which I'm still under far better control this way than doing injections but I was really bummed because the CGM and pump communication aspect was why I got the T-Slim X2 ☹

@Stargirl1989 I tried to use Dexcom but it like… doesn’t work for me. And I tried EVERYTHING to fix it. And I tried to work with Dexcom for solutions and they stopped talking to me. I frickin hate Dexcom.

I have had type 1 for going on 13 years now, and was always timid about starting the pump. However, I just started the Tandem Control IQ pump about a month ago and I love it! It has given me more freedom than i’ve ever imagined, and my control has become so much better just in the short time. It’s amazing with the control IQ the highs and lows that the pump can correct without having to tell it to do so. I would recommend looking into Tandem Control IQ if you’re looking to try a pump out, but also realize pumps aren’t for everyone and to do what you’re most comfortable with! I’m 22 as well, and when I first tried a pump around the age of 13 I was not ready for it and it steered me away from trying again until just this year.
