My family growing up was so unloving and harrowing. The pain of not having a family lingers even if i have some friends (and to be fair, being autistic makes my friendships feel challenging and weird, like I'm missing something. its often unfulfilled and I don't know why). Sometimes you just want a mother to call. The sadness of that disconnect is this background noise always subduing my mood a little. Its this perfectly reasonable ache coloring life.
