for the longest time, I'll just absent-mindedly pick at scabs and bumps all over my skin, not really realizing that I'm doing it until I notice that I'm bleeding. it's not a good or healthy habit, and I want to replace it, but I have no idea how to do so. I've tried wearing gloves, but that doesn't help. Any suggestions??

Personally I like to find funky textures to mess around with! But this sounds like dermatillomania! It's a rough to work with but can be easy once you get the right tools

I second the acrylic nails šŸ˜‚ it really does help!!! Although, Iā€™ve made some of my pimple picking worse since they are thicker :( seeing the scabs deters me enough to stop lol

the best thing iā€™ve found for skin picking is literally to get acrylic nails because theyā€™re too thick to pick with

I use those Calm Strips. I have them on my laptop, on the back of my phone and on this keychain thing that hangs off of my bag that I hold in my hand as I walk around. they can be peeled off and put back and you can pick at them. they help me alot. they have 2 textures. I like the pebble ones the most.

I paint my nails every night with clear nail polish so I can pick that instead of my skin the next day. Itā€™s been really helpful. My hands and scabs are finally healing for the first time in 2 years.

I bought tattoo-covering sleeves for like $7 on Amazon. They go all the way up my arms and have a thumb hole so you canā€™t just roll it up. I have really bad circulation so theyā€™re a little too tight for me to wear often but when I do the picking is greatly reduced (on my arms). The sleeve hides any visual or textural triggers on your skin and the material is stretchy like leggings/tights so you can pick at it a little bit which can be nice.

I use this bracelet I bought from the dollar store a few years back. They have these little stretchy rubber beads with ā€œspikesā€ on them (made from the same material as those mochi squishies or sticky hands you get in gumball machines) and I just pull and snap them repeatedly until the urge passes :) hope this helps!

I highly recommend hydrocolloid ā€œpimple patchesā€. They act as a barrier to keep you from picking while also relieving inflammation and flattening the spot so you have less to pick at.

honestly i have to avoid my own body, which isnt the best long-term, but thats whats helping me right now. If i change clothes and see my skin, its so easy for my to get sucked into picking at it. I have make it a ā€œgameā€ to change really fast without exposing myself to my skin. I have seen a lot of people with those picking rocks but i havent gotten one myself to try.

I have a fidget ring! Most of my picking is on my fingers so

having fidget tools constantly available really helps! I keep one in my coat pocket, some on my coffee table, & some by my bed!

Honestly I use a pop it that has 3 button things on it. Instead of my biting my nails I do that. I donā€™t absentmindedly all the time.
