i don’t understand why neurotypical people feel the need to infantilise autistic people, does anyone have any sort of idea?

I think part of it is that there are a lot of misconceptions about Autism. When I was younger a teacher of mine had told me that Autism was when someone stopped growing (mind-wise) at a certain age. So someone who was 18 could have the “mind of an 8-year-old”. Of course, that is not how Autism works as I now know. I’m not sure if this specifically is a common misconception but it could definitely be part of that, I’m sure.
