There's something I do that I don't know why. I feel over involved with media, characters and celebrities. I feel intrinsically tied to certain things, as if they are a part of me. It's to the point that when another person claims to know or like that thing more than me, I get upset. I don't lash out at other people or come for them but I have on occasion become overly defensive over these things. I know that I don't own shows, characters or celebrities but I don't know why I can't stop myself from feeling this way. I feel like every behavior must have a reason right? This is bothersome because I am not a stranger to crying over something someone said about a character I feel tied to.

this sounds like a hyperfixation or special interest! totally normal when associated with adhd or autism, and other neurodivergent disorders. if you wanted to control the irritability it causes you however, i would encourage therapy

I also feel this way. It’s super inconvenient too, it’ll happen even when I’ve been begging the person to view the media 😭

@finnigan I agree with this, but also weather it's in therapy or alone, think about where it might come from, do you feel the need to prove yourself, were you allowed to enjoy things as a kid, where you ever bullied? Once you have an idea of what might be causing the defensive feelings then they'll be easier to regulate in the moment
