Alright I’ve been spiraling. Ive gained 20 pounds, i need to get help for my drinking problem and i self harmed for the first time in years two weeks ago. I regretted it and whenever i see it on my thigh i think that i don’t recognize myself anymore. My question is as an adult will my therapist do anything if i tell her about the self harm ? Will she want to send me to the psych ward or contact an emergency contact because she feels I’m a danger to myself? This is definitely something i need to talk about but i worry what will happen if i do.

I think it’s best to be completely open with your therapist and psychiatrist, and it may end in you being hospitalized for self harm. They have the right to determine if you are a harm to yourself. But be honest - if you need help, you need help. It’s okay to need help and to admit how you’re feeling and how you’re coping (even if it’s through alcohol). Just be honest.
