Hi. I’m just wondering if any one suffering from gerd has had success with PPIs for a limited amount of time. I’m on week 8 and still no relief. Have modified my diet, raised head of bed, etc…

I took Dexilant for a couple of years 60mg. I’ve been off it for about 2 years now. I watch my diet and if I have any issues, I will chew a couple of tums and that’s it.

Nexium only seems to give me temporary relief, it always comes back a few weeks after stopping treating. Proton Pump Inhibitors can damage the stomach after a while so I only take them as directed. I find that taking a daily probiotic before eating really helps since the bacteria is the most important part of your stomach. I've learned over time what foods to avoid and when to take other supplements (Like a Lactaid pill before eating ice cream).

Anti-acids don’t help because they alkalize your stomach acid , and what doctors don’t explain to us is that’s not good . Because when you stop the acid production you have more risk for gut bacterias ,you can not process food well, gut disbiosis is promoted. If you do a little of research you will find that acid reflux is not cause for high stomach acid is the opposite. It’s cause by low stomach acid and the first and main cause are because of anti acids. You have to change your diet , is key , but anti acids won’t resolve the issue at all . Besides taking Ppi , find a good quality of digestive enzymes and take them with your food , you hopefully gonna see a huge difference. Enzymes will help your stomach to digest and “cut” the food you eat . Also , you can prepare marshmallow root infusions and drink it between meals and separate from medications at least 1 hour . You can search about marshmallow root and how much it helps with this condition . It helps tons to alíviate reflux , and helps to creat a protective layer in your esophagus and stomach. I never got relief from Anti acids , they helped for some weeks and then nothing works . When I start seeing an inmunonutricion doctor everything changed. I visited different gastro doctor and nobody helped me or gave me solutions more than “you have to live with this, and also , you have to take anti-acids for the rest of your life” , and that’s not true at all. Doctors right know need to be more interesting getting more updates about certain new ways to treat some illnesses. It’s not just about what they learn 30 o 10 years ago , everything has changed and new research’s has being made . So I hope you feel better
