I'm wondering if the most effective way to lose weight is to reduce calories or eat less? (obvs not like extremely fat food/fast food tho) so just eating a lot but low cal or eating just a couple things each day to keep going etc?

@starlightnovas I think they're mostly different for everyone, it just depends on what your body can digest more easily. I know peppermint is anti-inflammatory, but I would recommend doing research or asking your doctor. I try to follow the autoimmune diet for my Hashimoto's, which has vegetarian options/modifications as well and focuses on minimizing inflammation.
Well it depends on the reason for losing weight and if you know the reason for gaining weight
@Hannibal I've been bedbound a lot recently and have always gained weight very easily, but it's become dangerous for my health now
@starlightnovas Well I guess you could start with trying to get out of bed more if you can physically handle it. Baby steps of course, you shouldn't overwork yourself or you could just make yourself worse. If you think that you gain weight at an unnatural rate I think that's worth looking into the cause. For example if it were insulin resistance then you would treat that and have your weight go down as a side effect. Weight loss, dieting and calorie counting is a really slippery slope into unhealthy body image and eating disorders, which is why I think the best type of weight loss is unintentional and not your main goal. What I'm saying is to work on other aspects of your health, eating more balanced meals, more movement and exercise, addressing medical issues maybe even through medication, and these things can also bring your weight down. Just be kind to yourself and be safe
Caloric deficit is really the only way– putting in less calories than you’re using. And ofc exercise, which can look different for everyone. Doesn’t have to be anything crazy, even light stretching can help
@SlothFan26 I am bedbound a lot so how many calories would be acceptable since I can't run a mile to burn them off?
I would say low calorie, but not ignoring hunger cues. When your body is hungry, it actually stores fat because it thinks you're low on food. What I've found is that finding what foods are anti-inflammatory helps with reducing bloating. I also have mild food allergies, so avoiding those helps with bloating, too.
@kittycrime im a vegetarian and avoid a couple things for my ibs, are anti inflammatory foods different for everyone? Or what are some?
Calorie counting is the only way to lose weight period. Take your TDEE, -500 and thats your net intake for the day, and you will lose ≈ 1lbs a week, providing you count right. Many people underestimate their intake and overestimate their output, so ensure you weigh foods instead of guessing.
