How did you feel about Zoloft as an antidepressant? I just switched and a family member just told me that it is horrible and I’m worried.

I took it for two years before I had to switch. The only time was when my body had to get used to it when first taking it which took about a month - I had lower appetite with nausea, and was tired, but nothing too crazy and it eventually subsided!

Everyone's experience with medication is different, don't let your decision be based off of one person's experience. Our brains need different thins and we will not always have side effects

It worked for me but I gained a lot of weight. Like 30 lbs. The hardest part was weaning off when I felt like I didn’t want to take meds anymore. Everyone is different though. You may fine.

i’ve been on Zoloft since August of 2021, it’s my first anxiety medication i’ve ever taken and i love it! It has really helped me so much, after a few months i had to up the dosage but everything is good now. At first it made me feel very tired and weak but after about a week i felt great! I’ve tried many new things that i would’ve never done if i hadn’t been on it! Everyone is different but that is just my experience

Everyone reacts differently to medications. For years my mom wanted me to try Wellbutrin, and when I did, I had really bad side effects, so I got off of it immediately when I noticed them. Six months previously, I’d been on Effexor, and didn’t realize how bad it was till someone pointed it out, so when I started to feel the same on Wellbutrin, and from reading they are similar, I stopped it immediately. My mom has been happy on it for over the last decade. Whereas I’m better off on Lexapro. I’m pretty sure I tried Zoloft, too, at some point in my journey, and it was ok, but Lexapro was better. Here’s hoping it works for you! And if it doesn’t, that you find what works for you soon! The journey can be one hell of a rollercoaster, but it’s worth it to find what makes your brain happy!

@UselessBagOfMeat If you are comfortable, what side effects did you have?

I've taken it for almost ten years and it has really helped me. I don't have any significant side effects but everyone is different. It can be tough when you are getting on it, I was dizzy and queasy for about a week but then I was fine! It's really different for every individual. One medication might be rough for one person and perfect for another.

I took zoloft (sertraline) at 300mg per day for 9 months, and had some improvement but not much personally. No side effects either beyond it does eat your bones, and so its recommended to use calcium vitamins with it. My ex roomate use to be on it for many years and said it was massively helpful with her mood dissorder. I've never heard a bad experiance from it, I'd just take it as prescribed and give it a good 6 weeks to build up, and test upping the dose if needed with your dr, ( which could take 6 months to reach max dose, before needing to switch) and if you encounter any side effects, or worsening of depression and such to talk to your theripist/dr/psychiatrist about it. They are there to help!
