Wellbutrin for Anxiety: Any Success Stories?

After being without health insurance (and therefore medication) for quite awhile, I finally have it again and went to a new PCP today. I was prescribed Wellbutrin to help with anxiety. I am not a fan of antidepressants as I’ve been on quite a few over the years and they have either not worked or made me worse. I struggle with anxiety wayyyy more than depression usually and I’m afraid of gaining weight and losing libido. Does anyone else take Wellbutrin for anxiety? If so, does it help? Any bad side effects?

@rollergirl I kind of believe that fibromyalgia is over diagnosed by doctors who basically want to shut a patient up that complains about chronic pain. I am sure it is a real disease that has not been studied well enough to fully understand, but I think a lot of doctors dx incorrectly. Before I was diagnosed with lupus, a doctor diagnosed me with fibromyalgia and said the only criteria was ‘unexplained back pain for more than 6 months’ … idk. I hated the diagnosis because once I had it it was noticeable that doctors wouldn’t look into my concerns they’d just say ‘it’s just your fibromyalgia’ when it turned out that wasn’t necessarily the case. I also have endo and PCOS and Hashimotos. If you ever want to talk feel free to DM me. 🤗

@NicN i would love for something to increase my sex drive and I’m sure my boyfriend would as well cause normally it’s at a -5. 😂 I’ve got my fingers crossed it works out. I’m pretty sure that I’ve got undiagnosed ADHD because they used to prescribe me VyVanse for my fatigue issues (lupus) and it never really gave me energy it just made my brain feel like it worked more normally? So maybe this will be good. Day #2 of taking it!

I’m still trying out meds as my psychiatrist hasn’t gotten it fully right yet. I distinctly remember Wellbutrin actually giving me fairly rapid onset suicidal ideations it was so scary. Those black box warnings aren’t a joke :/

I also tried Wellbutrin for depression/anxiety and while it helped at first, it made my anxiety a lot worse so I had to go off of it. But everyone is different - I wouldn’t worry about losing libido or gaining weight, in fact most people can even lose weight going on it

For me, Wellbutrin felt like a stimulant and made my anxiety insane. But everyone is different. Some people I work with take it and love it because it increases their sex drive. But it was way too activating for me.

Hi. I’ve been on Wellbutrin, Cymbalta as well as Klonapin & Trazadone for sleep ever since I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia,Sjogren’s syndrome, small fiber neuropathy, etc. I’ve had a pretty severe case of Endometriosis since I was 12 and 3 surgeries prior to a complete radical hysterectomy. 😤 I have also been wondering whether or not the antidepressants are helping my anxiety/depression or if they are making my symptoms worse..? I wish that I could give you an answer, but I honestly don’t know myself. I do know that I could not sleep without Clonopin or trazodone. As it is I can’t ever get to sleep before 4 o’clock, five or six in the morning… It is having a terrible impact on a wonderful new relationship that I’ve been in for over six months now. But he’s a morning person I’m a night owl, it’s hard enough to try to explain symptoms of fibromyalgia to someone much less the sleep disorder that comes with it. I personally appreciate any advice that anyone with Fibromyalgia out there has to give. I wish you all the luck in the world and better health. 🤗❤️🙏
