Watchful Waiting: To Medicate or Not to Medicate?

Does anyone take a watchful waiting approach and not take medication except during flares?

I did and I got really down & sick. I’ve been diagnosed since 09 & I told myself I was not going to take anymore meds I just had enough & of course I was okay for about maybe a month but once all those meds was out of my system I was hurting and sick until I had to be admitted in the hospital for almost 14 days. The meds are maintenance meds and they really do maintain.

I was diagnose at 19 and am now 27. Taking plaquenil from 19 to the rest of my life was too long and I didn't feel like it was helping. I have not been on it for about 3 years and keep regular appointments with my rheumatologist to check blood work and I have been stable without the meds so I continue to stay off of them

Does this work? I’d love to try it! I’m on Plaquenil daily - but I am worried about the long term effects, having to be on it ‘the rest of my life’
