How much Vitamin D is really necessary?

what dosage of vitamin d iu is everyone on? my PCP says take 2,000 iu daily and be patient, I bought 10k at CVS on sale and asked if i can even absorb that much at once and he said "you can...but," and then just shrugged so not sure what to make of that and then my mom's doctor says he's not vitamin d deficient but takes 50k iu daily and if he feels off brings it up to 100k! so I'm kinda lost on how much is really necessary

yep I have low energy because I also have low b12 and it makes me very tired. The doctor said "want to have some energy." Don't know why but I am on 50,000 twice a week. Prescription.

I see a Functional Doctor and she was me on 10,000 IU a day. So far my levels are within the lower range of normal and still working on it 🤗

I only take 1000 IU daily :0 I didn't know any of this stuff! Reading these comments was a shock ahaha, although I'll admit that with a pretty severe deficiency (I believe they may have actually recommended 5k tablets but I didn't know what any of it meant at the time and went with whatever I could find! They didn't have the dose I needed in vegan tablets either) I had my blood tested months later for something else and my vitamin D levels were normal. So what some of you are saying about a small amount going a long way def checks out.

i only take 50,000 iu once a week. mine was prescribed by my transplant dr and i know tons of other people who take this dose as well. all my labs are perfect so it definitely works for me! i have no symptoms from it because my body needs it.

I take 50,000 ONCE A WEEK. Seems crazy to me to take it daily!! My levels were very low but this amount manages it very well. I wouldn’t take more just because of low energy- that could be something unrelated to your levels.

I take 2,000 as well and it works for me. My doctor once put me on 50k and it made me violently Ill for three weeks 😬 I had way too much vitamin D in my system with that, idk how your doctor does it!

I take 2000 IU a day as well. You do have to be a little patient with that dose. It is not recommended to do very big intake of vitamin D once a week. There are pills that are weekly but the half life of it kinda doesn't work with this timeline. Trust, if you wait a little you will see the results, if not you could talk to your doctor about increasing to 3000 IU. Excess of vitamin D is not a bad thing and there are not a lot of bad things that can happen but you always gotta be careful!
