I think I’m very addicted to video games. The second I’m free I go play video games. I’m in college and I just miss assignments because I don’t care enough, I’d rather be having fun. I do have ADHD and I’m on meds but nothing can change. I need help.

@Chayse while it's true that your brain chemically has dopamine receptors to where you get that joy of having fun and I guess technically you could argue that it's just meant to have stimulus and only that, it's incredibly important to pursue education and be able to provide for yourself. I'd say to go back and get your GED, bro, it's beyond necessary to hold even the lowest level of jobs and you have to have a career in order to buy the basics anymore, let alone plan the long term of your life.

I have the exact same issue. I failed calculus in high school and quantitative reasoning in college because of it. So far I’ve found setting small goals is the best for me. Say I have a project that’s due in a week I will set an alarm to work on it 20 minutes everyday. Because of hyper focus I usually finish it in 2 days and end up not needing the whole week like I had “planned” for. Not to mention the dopamine I get from getting one done can usually make me at least start another one and then my ocd makes it hard for me to stop doing it then I can play video games as long as I want after that small allotted amount of work time. Things like visual timers can also make the time pass faster.

Its sad that you say "you need help" when you brain was designed to have fun. especially ʙᴇᴄᴀᴜsᴇ ʏᴏᴜ ɢᴏᴛ ᴀᴅʜᴅ. ɪ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴀᴅʜᴅ ᴀɴᴅ ɪ ᴅʀᴏᴘᴘᴇᴅ ᴏᴜᴛ ɪɴ 𝟿ᴛʜ ɢʀᴀᴅᴇ ᴀɴᴅ ɪᴛ ᴡᴀs ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴇsᴛ ᴅᴇᴄɪsɪᴏɴ ᴇᴠᴇʀ. (ᴜɴᴛɪʟ ᴍʏ ᴘᴀʀᴇɴᴛs ᴋɪᴄᴋ ᴍᴇ ᴏᴜᴛ)

I'd try and channel some of that towards useful habits/goals rather than funneling all your free time towards games. While it is understandable why you do it, it is to the detriment of not only your current schoolwork but also your finances and future. If you're just paying money to go to college and not making full use of the resources available in order to pursue games it just isn't worth it.

@Guido cool, I'm addicted to video games too but I'm gonna use it as a positive light and go be in a team and earn money
