I've only just been made aware that quite a few of my prescribed medicines aren't vegan and that my doctor hadn't told me, despite knowing I follow a vegan diet. I'm now torn between my ethics and my health. without those medicines I would be in constant severe pain and probably bedbound, but it doesn't feel comfortable knowing that they do not align with my ethics. what can I do?

It's tough. At the least, many medications include non-vegan fillers. Sometimes if it's only the fillers, you can have them made vegan at a compounding pharmacy, but it's often more expensive and insurance may not pay for it. Vegan ethics say that we avoid animal products wherever possible, but if it isn't possible, you're still doing the best you can. For example, I can't afford to get my thyroid medication compounded, so I'm stuck taking the non-vegan one, and I definitely can't stop taking it.

@AnaBelle96 in the UK, on the nhs, I don't think there's an option to have them made different just for me, unfortunately. I'll look into alternatives, but I guess if I'm trying my best, it still matters
