It’s an old blanket term, but I’m not sure if they changed the meaning. Bipolar 1 is full manic mood swings with depressive episodes, bipolar 2 is only hypo mania with mostly depressive swings. You can google it to get the full detail

Manic depression was an older term that got replaced and while Im not sure it seems they were mostly talking about type one in research I found when I got diagnosed. If you got diagnosed with that label and thats why youre asking it might be worth it to specify the type with your doctor because treatment can look a bit different sometimes. And a lot of doctors are not up to date about the condition.
