What's the difference between type 1 and type 2 of Bipolar Disorder? Currently, I am "unspecified" to which one if not both types. Any insight would help me.

I was originally diagnosed Not Otherwise Specified (NOS) when I was first diagnosed with Bipolar. After a few months, I was diagnosed Bipolar 2 due to my many hypomanic and depressive episodes, but no recorded manic episodes. A few years later, I had a full blown manic episode and my diagnosis changed to Bipolar 1. I am currently stable, thanks to a good med regimen, counseling, and my own coping skills. If you have any more questions or would like to chat, feel free to DM me any time.

"Bipolar Type 1 has mania while type 2 has hypomania, which are less severe episodes of mania. You can only have psychosis through bipolar 1. For bipolar 1 you have to have at least 1 episode of mania that lasts at least 1 week, while hypomania in bipolar 2 lasts at least 4 days. Depressive episodes last at least 2 weeks for both types. Bipolar 1 is characterized by more intense manic episodes and depressive episodes, whereas type 2 usually has longer depressive episodes and instead of mania it causes hypomania, which is less intense than mania."
