Understanding Alters in Dissociative Identity Disorder

I am a system and we have around 30 alters 4 are protectors but the rest idk why we have them and I was wondering if someone could help explain that

We're a smaller system of about 6 alters, and to be honest, we arent even sure what everyone's roles are! We know our protector and caretaker, but other than the host we're not quite sure about the rest. I'd say just take some time to learn more about your alters and you'll figure everything out in time :)

There's about 20 of us in our system, with maybe 4 protectors as well. There are many different roles, you can get a list and description of each here: http://traumadissociation.com/alters You may not know an alters role immediately and their role could change over time.
