With multiple disorders that have overlapping symptoms/effects, do you find it more helpful to try to treat symptoms regardless of the cause, or figure out what exactly is causing what and tackle the root issues?

It's usually a case by case basis for me. If I can tell that a specific symptom is coming from one place, it's often better to get to the root of it for me. But if it's something like anxiety or a more vague symptom, I'll usually try to cope with that specific symptom regardless of where it comes from. I often find that unless you're dealing with trauma or something ASD/ADHD related, in my experience at least, treating the symptom helps more than getting to the root of it.

while i usually focus on managing symptoms regardless, i always stop to figure out if the symptoms is tied to or aggravated by trauma. i feel that most of my symptoms can be tied to my trauma in some way and find that once ive worked on healing enough, the symptom becomes more easily managed.
