Tourette's and Selective Mutism: Do Vocal Tics Stop When Mute?

Does anyone else with Tourette's and selective mutism find that when your mutism kicks in while you're ticcing your vocal tics stop? I've been going mute a lot as of late and I've noticed I stop having complex vocal tics when I'm mute.

Can you help? Connect today

What triggers your mutism? I pretty heavily relate.

Usually stress or anxiety but lately I've been having these "staring spells" and then right after I just go mute.

Yes!!! People always think I'm faking because of it, but I just learned sign language so it's never been a real problem, and whenever people think faking I kick em to the curb, they don't deserve us

I just have motor tics not Tourette’s but I’ve found my tics are worse when I’m mute as my anxiety is really bad and that triggers both, it’s very embarrassing

Actually yes. When I lose speech I physically cannot get sounds out my mouth so my vocal tics don’t work. I sometimes halfway mouth the vocal tic, but no noise comes out and my mouth freezes halfway through.
