Need help with TMJ pain relief

I have really bad TMJ and right now it's swollen and hurts like a mfer, and I can't close my jaw. I've never found anything besides waiting it out to take down swelling and pain, does anyone have any remedies that work for them?

A cold compress/ice pack for 15 minutes at a time might help with the swelling

My dentist made me a bite gaurd. Just for the lower jaw. Not sure if that is something that might help.

I needed to get bite guards from my dentist too. One for while I sleep, and one to wear sometimes during the day to remind myself not to clench. The night one has helped a lot, to take some of the pressure off. My dentist recommended some self massage on the muscles in that area too, around my cheek, ear, and head. Anywhere that is sore. And grabbing deep inside your check, one finger inside and one outside and pulling toward your mouth, massaging. I have heard that heat can help too.

800mg ibuprofen when mine acts up. Works better than Tylenol imo since it takes the throbbing inflammation away and Tylenol don’t; since it’s not an NSAID

Thank u guys for the advice I really appreciate it. I took two ibuprofen when I got home which ended up not helping. Massaging is what I always try but for whatever reason that makes it way worse. I ended up taking a hot shower which actually eased some of the swelling and pain.

For TMJ the night guard helps…As well as Baclofen.
