Tips for Wearing a Holter Monitor for 30 Days

I have to wear a 30 day holter monitor. I wore a 24 hour one and my cardiologist said she noticed a couple things she just wanted to be sure were fine. My problem is, adhesive sucks. It’s day 1 and my skin is already irritated. Any tips to keep my skin calm? I’d like my sanity and skin in tact by the end of this. Thank you!

I eventually had to just say I can’t no more. I had to get a implanted loop recorder to help catch my issues.

So I got hypoallergenic adhesive for this but they’re giving me hives. The original adhesives gave me really bad blisters (bleeding, swollen) so I was allowed a few day break and given sensitive skin patches instead. I’m still reacting and I use lotion around them to try to soothe them and take Benadryl. I have two more weeks of this. I’m at a loss. I’m going to look into MCAS to see if that could explain some things for me. I just wanted to update y’all.

I have MCAS and the adhesive really bothered me on my one day holter monitor, I’m doing a 7 day one soon. I was able to ask for adhesive that isn’t as much of a irritant

I had to do the same!! It was irritating physically and emotionally tbh. I would scratch around the area. Put lotion around the area. And when in doubt reapply a new adhesive after exfoliating your chest.

Right so there's no way to directly reply to comments? Ok.. POTS wouldn't cause a skin reaction to adhesive, though MCAS can be the culprit. Allergies and reactions to adhesive is ridiculously common even outside the two.

switch to the hanging one- it’s dumb but worth it. for me, mild irritation at the beginning turned into horrible blisters by the second week!

I’m so sorry!! I don’t have any advice except changing it a bit more frequently then recommended and taking the adhesives off when showering! I had to wear one for 30 days and I managed to get covid while wearing it! I am quite allergic to adhesives and would find little itchy bumps on the spots where the adhesives were! It’s definitely not fun but it’s for the best!

Is this a normal POTS thing to be sensitive to adhesive?

No advice but I found out I'm mildly allergic to the adhesive during one of those. But the time they took it off o had little blisters and it felt like it was burning :( they didn't say anything about it

Oh no im so so sorry I delt with that too. I ended up with some scars from a reaction to the adhesive. I would call and ask the cardiologist if you can place anything on your skin since it may interrupt the connection or react with the adhesive.
