Tips for recalling memories from other alters?

what are the best ways you've found to 'remember' or recall information from other alters experiences? I've found if I think about it and think enough around something I can generally get an idea of a memory, but it's still time consuming and oftentimes doesn't work. like trying to remember a song without even a tune to go on. does anyone else struggle with this? and do you have any tips on combatting it?
