Worried about radioactive iodine for thyroid scan

I am scheduled for thyroid scan soon and was told to do so I have to take radioactive iodine for it. I have looked it up and am worried because my genetics (had testing done) makes it really hard for me to clear out toxins efficiently. I have been in a bad flare recently and am worried about the added stress to my body of taking something like that. So I am wondering if anyone has any info or experience with taking radioactive iodine that could shed some more light on the possible effects.
