I haven't had mine removed, but I've monitored various nodules with yearly ultrasounds, FNA biopsies for troublesome ones, and I underwent a Radiofrequency Ablation procedure on a larger nodule that was causing pressure symptoms. My Drs have always had the perspective that if your thyroid is still functioning in some capacity, to keep it and supplement with medication if needed. There's a number of options out there between no treatment and a total thyroidectomy - worth researching if your Dr thinks surgery might be a good idea. I do wonder sometimes about taking the whole thing out and getting rid of the troublemaker though.

I’ve had mine removed since I was 13 but that was because it was starting to develop tumors and I didn’t want to go through chemo in middle school

Nope! Typically they don’t recommend unless your thyroid has tumors or goiters on it. It’s invasive to remove it just because it doesn’t work.
