Therapy was helpful to me because I had to learn fundamental stuff like what certain emotions even were, then how to deal with them constructively. That's my #1 biggest struggle -- people don't understand that I had to LEARN certain emotions, it wasn't innate, it never will be, and I may never really understand certain aspects of how people feel 100%. Talk therapy really helped me with these realizations.

For me talk therapy helps because you let out how you feel, what’s bothering you, etc. I’ve been to DBT many times. It teaches understanding emotions, how to cope with em, etc.

I personally didn’t respond to traditional talk therapy and I did it for 5 years with limited progress! However I did recognize the strategies therapists use like CBT and DBT which unconsciously helped me have a more logical system in my brain to combat illogical thoughts. Last year my former therapist said I had severe anxiety and depression and complex PTSD. But then I got a new life coach and she did give me lots of wisdom, but it was moreso the unconditional love and support in a friendly relationship that helped me do massive amounts of shadow work. In six months of working with her, it was really me that helped myself with the inner workings of my thoughts and feelings and I healed my trauma and anxiety and depression! I really believe hugs do much more than words :)
