Surviving a Heart Attack at 26: My Story

December 6 I had foot surgery. Two days later I was sent home with iv antibiotics to help aid my recovery. Half way home my iv site started to bleed on its on and my arm started to swell. I don’t remember what happened or even waiting in the er for a room. Honestly I don’t remember anything from the last three years. Reason being on December 12 th my mom (who I was staying with that night instead of my apartment alone so she could help me recuperate) came into my room and had no luck waking me up. She immediately called 911 and they rushed me to the er . Upon arriving at the hospital i suffered a heart attack. An hour later I went into cardiac arrest and my heart and body completely stopped. The doctor asked for someone to call it but my mother begged them to try one more time. So they did and finally I had a pulse. I lost oxygen to my brain for 20 minutes..both my lungs were completely filled with water. I had to be placed on a ventilator that was breathing for me. Doctors didn’t believe I would have a good quality of life after losing so much oxygen to my brain. After. Three weeks in the hospital I walked out the hospital with no problem other then minor issues that I don’t mind having. (I’d rather have problems then to not be here at all) . Idky I’m still here or why I walked out of the hospital with no problem when all odds were against me. But I’m blessed and grateful for a second chance at a new life. By the way the reason this story is so shocking is because I’m only 26 years old I’m also diabetic. My insulin pump malfunctioned while I was sleeping and my blood sugar went above 600 with out my knowledge. That contributed to my heart attack. What caused the cardiac arrest on the other hand is undetermined as of now. I have a few broken ribs and a couple bruised ribs as well. I’m terrified of the dark (my doctor said it’s because my mind has flashbacks that trigger fear whenever I’m in the dark). I’m grateful to still be on earth and I appreciate my mom and my whole family (mostly and especially my mom) for being there for me during such a trying and difficult time.
