Surgery or Opioids: A Painful Dilemma

Surgery or opioid medications (that I really don't want, and I'd have to give up D8 😡)? What's a guy to do?

I'm almost 2 yrs post fusion/ discectomy and after the initial healing, did great for roughly 12 months- am now having worse pain than ever- my arm and shoulder keep me awake and constantly drop everything. I'm now trying acupuncture and preparing to find out if I'm going in for decompression surgery. This is misery

I had rf ablation therapy and it has been amazingly effective.

I'm amazed you were offered medication at all. I had a spinal fusion 2 yrs ago and am basically just waiting for another disc to deteriorate to the point they can do surgery again. I was sent out of the office with a pamphlet from the 1980s on how to do strengthening exercises to get me through until I can't stand it anymore. I have to go a couple times a year to urgentcare to get a round of steroids and a small script for muscle relaxers. But I've been using an HHC vape pen and kratom off and on and that helps some. Surgery didn't do a whole lot for me. But maybe that's because I have another area of my spine that's jacked up.

That's pretty much what the surgeon told me. He said if I did opt for it now, he'd probably have to go back in in a few years to start working on other areas.

Not really sure. I have an appointment set up to talk to the surgeon.
