Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes! I love DBT. It changed my life. However, it can be difficult to learn because it requires mindfulness. We prefer to suffer and get lost in our emotions. DBT doesn't work for the people who don't commit to it and see it to the end.

I mean, completely changing the way you think and feel is going to be hard. I'm so thankful that there is therapy that specifically helps BPD.

So I hated DBT and I found a lot of the rhetoric behind it wildly outdated, especially the place where I was being treated. DBT was technically created for folks with BPD, but that doesn’t mean it’s one size fits all. In my experience, it didn’t take into account the other mental illnesses I was struggling with while also having BPD. I also think it’s a pretty harmful stereotype that the people who “quit” DBT prefer to suffer as opposed to committing. The place that did mine actively took steps that resulted in me gaining more trauma and did more harm to my psyche. Find what combinations of treatment works for you, not everyone’s journey is the same.
