Hey!!! This is my first post here, and I just. Wanted to discuss health issues tbh. I've always struggled with losing weight since I was a kid (and my relatives instilled an ED in the process, which STILL didn't have me lose weight-) and it's gotten worse over time. Last year, I tried a fasting diet as it was one of the few I haven't tried yet. However instead, my weight had gone UP. It was then I had gotten diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. From what I've read, it makes it almost impossible to lose weight. And with some of my other conditions ( ED & Sensory issues from ADHD) it makes it hard to enact certain diets to lose weight. Have you guys figured anything out that can help? I'd love to hear some tips before I just surrender entirely to the fact I'm never gonna stop gaining weight šŸ„²

This is more adding to Blueiceā€™s comment but I would also recommend seeing a specialist! Iā€™m on metformin too and have only had symptoms at the beginning of starting the pill (nausea but it went away after a week or two) and after I had my gallbladder surgery when other symptoms started. Ofc symptoms are different for everyone but if youā€™d like to look into it Iā€™d recommend it. Honestly I might keep it even with the side effects I have now.

So your story sounds EXACTLY like mine. Go to an OBGYN or Weight Loss specialist familiar with metabolic syndrome (insulin resistance is a good key word). If your insulin and or blood sugar levels are severe enough, request a regulation medicine like Metformin or even Ozempic. Metformin CHANGED MY LIFE. I was actually able to lose weight instead of gaining weight after weeks of fasting. (For reference I gained 50 pounds in one year, living a healthy lifestyle because of metabolic syndrome.) However, please know that even after getting on meds, your progress will eventually slow. It is still a battle. I recommend cutting any excessive carbs and sugar in your diet, since that is what your body has a hard time processing. Work out casually, donā€™t go crazy, and most importantly, do NOT starve yourself. Iā€™ve found that walking 2 miles 4 times a week, eating a high protein diet, and avoiding extra carbs and sugar are the best things for me, in addition to my medication. Remember that a soda or cupcake isnā€™t going to blow all of your progress, and you deserve breaks, too. The battle is slow, but if you can get in touch with the right weight loss specialist it will change your life. Feel free to message me for support. I know exactly how you feel.

@blueice this is all great advice. I was thinking about trying metformin but some of the side effects made me rethink that but maybe I should investigate more.

@brownsugababe you should! I have lost 32 pounds on it, and have had no side effects, but you know what is best for you. Everyone is different!šŸ¤—
