Struggling with Self-Diagnosis and Finding My Place in the World

This is my first time posting, hello everyone! I apologize for being a bit of a downer on my first post, but I just need to vent… I have been self-diagnosing since I was very young, trying to make sense of the way my brain works in order to function properly. First it was bipolar disorder, then ADHD, now Autism… Sometimes I get so frustrated because I can’t find my place in the world, nor figure out how to manage. Although with my last two diagnoses I feel so validated. I can relate in so many ways & it just makes sense. I feel at home here in ASD/ADHD world where noone is confused by my spaceyness, bluntness, or lack of executive functions, among other things because they are all facing similar challenges. I want to stay here & I also want my support system to just support me & not tell me what they think I’m not autistic as if its the plague. I found a place where I feel like I finally belong, but this place is less than desirable to some in the neurotypical community. Which really hurts my feelings… Thank you for coming to my “TED” talk.

Hi! I can definitely relate. (Diagnosed with Type 2 Bipolar 5 years ago and recently with ASD) I think the biggest shift for me has been accepting that minimizing both my ADHD and ASD symptoms have so much to do with my routine and environment. I spent 5 years trying to find the right med combo just to realize that doesn't exist for me. Hang in there ❤️
