Hi, I’m 19 years old - Almost 20. I was diagnosed with OCD around a year ago, but, looking back, I see signs of it throughout my childhood, including: tracing letters on my hand, compulsively snapping/doing movements or making noises, having intrusive thoughts, and I’ve always had severe paranoia and hypochondria, as well as struggling with my sexuality. Now, I’m in college, not doing any therapy, and the meds i’m taking are aimed for anxiety and depression. I am struggling to manage my OCD, especially with germs/contamination, intrusive thoughts, and compulsive behaviors. I would love some recommendations on how to deal with OCD and the shocking realization that my behaviors are a result of this disorder. Thanks! <3.

hihi! i feel you—i was diagnosed with OCD recently as well. your medication will actually do wonders for your ocd—ssris are very commonly prescribed for those with ocd. if you feel like your condition isn’t improving, however, please talk to ur psych!! as for managing symptoms, i find distracting myself and fidgeting helps a lot.
