Struggling with Medications for Mental Health

Medications have not seemed to help, over the past two years I have taken over 10 different medications (antidepressants, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics). I have had genetic testing done and that still doesn’t seem to help. Is there any other testing or solutions i can try besides medications? (:

Have you tried CBD? I use it and have been amazed by how much relief I've gotten. There are so many options on how to use/take it.

I forgot to mention I have seen two therapists over the past two years! I have gone to talk therapy and now i do DBT and it helps somewhat but I am still constantly anxious, nauseous, sweaty (I know gross), shaky etc. I also have a lot of trauma ( SA, witnessed a Shooting, bullying) and can’t avoid all triggers which then sends me into dark places… you get the gist. I am desperate to try anything. I feel like something is missing from my diagnosis or something.

Therapy is more effective for anxiety and the true core issues around anxiety are related to behavioural and experiental triggers. I’ve been on so many meds and such too and therapy is what got me feeling safe to drive again and even leave the house. PRNs for short term can help but not a fix at all.

I've also taken a LOT of drugs over the years, until I got to a point where nothing worked anymore. Bottom line: between drugs and therapy always choose therapy. It's less bodily invasive, safer, and often works better. It's just finding the right therapist that's the trouble. For me, body based trauma therapy (somatic approach) sounds like the best fit though I haven't been able to try it yet

If you don't already have one, finding a therapist who is a good fit for you can do WONDERS. I have been in therapy for 6 years and had 6 different therapists until I found the therapist I've been with for 3 years. I thought therapy wasn't for me until I kept trying and found a therapist PERFECT for me. Try talking straight up about what you want and need from a therapist in the first session and ask how they typically approach their sessions. When I found my current therapist, I told him right off the bay that I needed him to be straight up with me, call me on my bs, and not sugar coat things. One of my previous therapists had over validated my trauma and made me feel even more depressed when I left. Also if you can try to find/create a strong support system of friends you can talk to or just hang out with sometimes. Going out and doing stuff helps too, like go downtown in a new city and just walk around and check out new stores, go get food and have a picnic in the park, talk to strangers when you're in line at the store. Or if you find yourself stuck in bed all day, try to open the window, or if you can go lay down outside and get some sun, vitamin D, fresh air, and some nature. A lot of little things add up and can help. I hope this helps you! (:
