I've been struggling with GI issues for the past 5 months seemingly out of nowhere. I was recently diagnosed with ibs but I don't seem to respond to low-fodmap diet, elimination diet, or medications like levsin, prilosec, etc. I'm not sure if I should pursue another diagnosis or if this is truly ibs. I've had constant symptoms, not flare-ups, for 5 months straight of painful bloating in my upper belly, sharp cramps, gas and belching, and many daily bms. I've kept a journal and found no food triggers, everything hurts to eat. I've had blood work, xrays, ultrasound, ct, and colonoscopy/endoscopy which ruled out celiac, diverticulitis, gallstones, pancreatitis, etc and only found stomach inflammation. Does this sound consistent with anyone else's ibs symptoms or should I keep looking for answers? Are there other tests I can ask my GI doctor for?

I just had a followup today and my GI dr insists that it's just ibs and gastritis and no further tests are necessary. I haven't gotten any worse but I can't seem to get better either. She started me on Remeron (antidepressant) to see if it will help. I was on a wait list for 2 months to see a GI Dr so I can't imagine starting over but I'm frustrated that she doesn't know what's causing my symptoms.

Typically if they see inflammation you could have IBD, that could be the source of your problems, if it gets worse I’d have them do another scope possibly, a diagnosis of GERD dosent really sound like that to me. Prilosec is a ppi and will cause you to not absorb your food. I remember after my scope they put me on that, I never took it though. I’d get a new GI doc if I were you. Because IBS is an exclusionary DX, meaning normal findings but they don’t have an answer for your problems. Inflammation in the colon is found… something else, if it’s colitis/gastritis they’d put u on antibiotics. Have you gotten worse?

@Nancy_Drew yes, I was also diagnosed with GERD and given prilosec.
