Struggling with Derealization

Does anyones derealization get so bad to the point where you’re just so confused and you can’t tell whether anything is real or not? like i try to tell myself it is real but it’s hard for me to believe that. it’s just so intense sometimes. the existential questions are so hard to overcome with it.

I relate with this so hard. I feel almost glitchy sometimes.. its hard to explain.. I feel like the people around me aren't even real even if they're talking to me looking me straight in the eyes. I try to act normal and continue the conversation but my minds like you're not even real.

I understand trust me. There's times where I'm walking and all of the sudden it just feels like I'm not here. It's like this dizzy like feeling but not feeling dizzy if you know what I mean.

The fear of having psychosis is SO common in DP and DR. The biggest difference is that with DP and DR you logically understand things are real and can interact with the world but they don’t feel real. Psychosis you actually believe nothing is real, and my understanding is that you probably wouldn’t be worrying about it if you had it, because you’re completely detached from reality at that point.

why do i actually think nothings real sometimes though? i’m so scared what if that’s psychosis?

Yes! This is called derealization where the world feels fake around you. Believe it or not it’s your brain trying to protect you when you’re feeling stressed. Acknowledging the thought and feeling, reminding yourself that you’re not in danger, and then refocusing your attention externally might help!

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this too, I swear something happened but when I ask somebody about it, turns out it never did. You aren't alone :)
