Put ice cubes in your hands. It will give the same feeling you'd have with "self harming". It's an actual thing. Or draw on yourself with red marker. It will trick your brain that you have cut yourself without doing any actual harm. Or even ketchup could work

I understand. When I feel like that I force myself to go outside and feel the sun. Even if it's cold I'll go outside in shorts and I'll feel the sund and the cold or heat and just breathe

I understand what you mean I have self-medicated many of times yesterday I decided to quit my addiction was getting too strong and it was overtaking my life to the point to where me and my significant other are no longer together the thing that I do to keep from going back to self Medicate is pray you can pray I also read books I do a lot of reading I don't know what it's like to have a smoking addiction but I have a different type of addition that I am dealing with but keep up the good work God is always on your side know that and I'm glad that we have this app to connect with one another I'm glad that I'm not alone and the PTSD area and a lot of mental health issues I also have reoccurring nightmares and all but I'm learning and teaching myself to turn to God keep faith and he lavishes all his grace and mercy on us he forgives our sins no matter what we do. Stay strong friend. 🙏

I've self harmed a lot in the past, and a little here and there. One thing that Ive started doing when I really want to self harm is lifting weights. Either go to a gym or get a set of dumbbells for home. Or pick up running/cycling/rowing. The "burn" from exercise is like a nicotine patch for self harming for me and it has helped me not slip back into it. I also hope to see improvements in my body and start feeling better from that too

I too suffer from depression & PTSD. I have 3 kids & 3 granddaughters, one just 6 months old they are my reason for not doing anything to myself. They lost one parent/papa and I don't want them to lose both. I just saw my behavioral health professional today & she upped my meds. So please don't do it it's not worth the pain. You are loved.

please don’t. there are plenty of coping mechanisms to try. i just self harmed for the first time in my life about a week ago after struggling with mental health for over 14 years. i’ll be honest, at first i really liked it, i never thought i’d be able to break skin bc i HATE blood but once i did it and it wasn’t that scary i was like “oh, why wasn’t i doing this all the time.” but then the next day came and oh my god. the pain is unreal. it stings SO bad and if you want to wear sleeves to cover it up it’s just gonna rub and remind you of this terrible secret you have to keep. i was also terrified of someone seeing it because i have been to a psych ward before and i promise you you do not ever want to be brought into one especially involuntarily if someone reports you for cutting. i am struggling with the urge of doing it again but i keep reminding myself of the pain (physical and mental) and fear i felt in the days after. please reach out to me or someone else if you have an urge and i will do my best to provide you with coping mechanisms given to me by my own licensed professionals. also if you’re not already in therapy, i strongly encourage going before you fall into the habit, it can be very addicting. stay strong, i hope this helps. somebody loves you 💕
