I have been severely depressed and anxious since mid April after I was hospitalized for an acute manic episode.. I’m taking meds but no relief yet.. any encouraging words ?
Hi there. I’m bipolar as well and while I’ve never been hospitalized ( even tho at times i should have been), I want to tell you that it gets better. Please don’t give up and keep being invested in your mental health. Bipolar treatment doesn’t come easy and it take a lot of trial and error. Besides meds, the most effective coping strategy has been making a daily schedule. ESPECIALLY when I’m depressed.
meds do take some time to kick in. Remember that. BUT some meds are trash as well. Personally I take Prozac and Depakote. Prozac is the antidepressant component of my treatment and Depakote is the mood stabilizer. Prozac is tricky with bipolar disorder though so if you have severe mania, you shouldn’t consider it. Depakote gives me a calming effect that’s long lasting and consistent. However it makes me tired so that’s something to consider.
Hi! I have bipolar and have been hospitalized a few times. It took me a while to "level out" and get back to feeling more like myself. I definitely relied heavily on talk therapy and stuck with my meds if they seemed to help. After a while though, sometimes after weeks to months, the meds just weren't cutting it.
I saw that your taking Latuda. Can I ask how long you've been on it? My daughter, also bipolar, started it three weeks ago and she is reporting feeling really anxious and depressed. Just wondering if her new med might have something to do with that.
There are so many meds out there now that even if you haven't got the right one yet, there are so many other options out there. Keep up with therapy and be very transparent with your med provider. They can only do their job as well as we let them and they need our direction.
Hang in there, you've got this.
Just remember, be the bouncy ball.
It's not how hard you fall or how high you soar, it's how well you bounce.😁
