Struggling with Communication: Any Tips?

What's something that helps you communicate with people easier? Like I struggle with communication because I'm not the best at understanding tones. Whenever I can't tell someone's tone I shut down because I assume they don't like me or they're mad at me. I have taken some communication classes when I was younger but I still struggle with it.

Honestly, vocabulary. And it works fairly well until I use words people don’t know 😅 I’ve gotten many comments that I “talk like a writer”, or “talk fancy”. I still don’t feel like it does my thoughts and feelings justice, but it at least gets the ideas across. As for tones, I often just have to ask people what they mean, or what they’re feeling.

I second communicating via text. I cannot express myself verbally the way I can through written communication. I'd say I'm proficient enough with verbal communication but it's extremely uncomfortable and draining for me. And I tend to ruminate. I don't do that with text.

i found being honest with people you’re close with helps them communicate better with you as well. explaining to people you don’t understand tone and it makes you question how they feel about you then, then if they truly care about you, then they’ll make sure to avoid that sort of tone. but my friends know texting has always been an easier way for me to communicate and get my words out without my voice box going on mute when i start to have anxiety. just know being honest with what your comfortable with always helps in the end 💗
