Struggling with Chronic Illness as a Young Adult

Hey y’all I’ve been really struggling lately with being 20 and having this debilitating chronic illness. I want to be able to go out and do “normal” young adult things but i can’t because of my limitations with my disorders. It’s sending me into a spiral of depression and self hate. I was wondering if anybody had any advice on how to get out of this rut?

I'm right here with you, it sucks. I just got a Narcolepsy T1 diagnosis as well and I kinda feel like I'm spiraling. It's always helped me to know that I'm not alone, have you tried any local support groups? I'm working on getting into a few that will hopefully help me get out and socialize more with people that understand how debilitating my conditions are.

i'm going through the same thing, it's really hard. i've been trying to get more involved with online communities-- especially where there are other chronically ill/disabled people. even just seeing that you're not alone is comforting, but it's a good way to make connections too. and some advice that i've gotten when it comes to making local friends is being honest with them upfront, like telling them about your limitations and that you want to be included and invited to things but you might not always be able to make it. that way, you can be sure you're making friends who are going to be understanding and accomodating

I'm in the same boat. I'll be honest, depending on what you like to do, try and find people who like to do the same thing. If that doesn't work, just go out alone, to a movie, the mall, a bar, restaurant.. don't worry about going alone! Even maybe going to a trail to hike or exercise as well. If you are really bored I guess, you can always try a good video game, or do art. Again, it depends , but don't be afraid to do new things, as long as it isn't harmful to you or others!
