I'm currently struggling with the thought of whether or not I might have ADHD. How did you guys get diagnosed and what was the process like? what are my possible treatment options?

My boyfriend noticed some symptoms and asked if I'd ever considered it. After a chat with my GP she referred me for assessment. Currently on a waiting list.

I had no idea. I should have though, since it runs in my family. My primary doctor brought it up and referred me to get a diagnosis. I have hyperactive type adhd. I take Focalin XR and it helps
I brought it up with my psychiatrist and took a self assessment test with them. From there, he asked some more determining questions and I got my diagnosis. I feel like the process can be a little different for everyone, but as long as you’re heard and you get the diagnosis you need, I think you’re okay.
I got diagnoses through talking to the psychologist for some days and then answering multiple choice questions another day, i was trying to get diagnosed for ASD 😆 but for 3 diagnoses in total lol!!
@StrawberryMilk but i went to my doc first to refer to me to a psychologist and you go on from there!
To be perfectly honest, I had absolutely no idea until some of my peers asked me if I had ever been assessed. I work in mental health, so this didn’t come off as a bad thing to me, but rather that they cared. I had gone in for a check up with my psychiatrist, and she actually mentioned it and assessed me right then and there. At 26, I was diagnosed. I currently take adderall and I’m working on my mindfulness and self awareness🙂
I brought it up to my doctor. I had basically self diagnosed myself and wanted them to test me. I noticed that I couldn't focus and I had executive disfunction.
I brought it up to my primary care doctor and he referred me to a neurologist, I have my diagnosis appointment in December. I can give you more details on the process once I have the appointment!
If you have a psych, bring it up! Usually what happens is an in-person evaluation (not stressful, usually just some questions) and then you go from there essentially. If you don’t have a psych, ask your doctor for resources to get started on that. It’s not stressful at all, getting on meds is another thing since like with any other meds, you may not get the right med at first, but it’s worth it if you believe possible ADHD hinders your day-to-day activities.

🤷♀️ I was 5 and I don't remember what I was like. I just know I was a wild child who got into everything so my mom had me tested. Treatment option is medication.
@ClumsyWorm same for me
