Struggling to Keep My Blood Glucose Up

I can’t keep my BG up. What do u do? Two units of novolog today (TOTAL) and I’ve had 1009:8384483 skittles. Decrease my long acting??? I’m highly active. Everyday is different with this sh*t. I need advice despite all I know is to drop my long acting. I don’t want to eat 2038484 skittles a day to keep my bg up. I eat low card by choice… but 1u of insulin and I’m LOW.

Can you help? connect today

I highly recommend an insulin pump and sensor combo to help! I love my Tslim X2 and Dexcom. In the meantime if you are able to get it up at all w the Skittles, have lots of protein to keep it steady and from dropping back down

I would look into using less long-acting :) I had a very similar issue when I was diagnosed and it worked like a charm. If you’re very active through the day I also recommend having a drink with some sugar in it to sip on through the day (that will help with keeping them up while you are doing said activities) that helped me when I worked in a warehouse where I was moving for several hours at a time.

carbs and protein are very important in keeping you stable. peanut butter and crackers or other forms of bread can be really helpful along with milk. i only run low in my sleep (nocturnally hypoglycemic) and having these before sleeping help a lot. you might have to move away from the low carb diet, but also possibly waiting a bit on the insulin may help as well?

also thinking about it, but the type of insulin may have a lot to do with it?

Long acting if its all day, if its after meals, decrease rapid acting. My lantus dose was wayyy too high after my diagnosis. I decreased by 7 units total. I decreased by 2 unit increments. If that makes sense 🤗

I get the same way with one full unit. The pump has really helped me. If thats not an option for you, id suggest talking to your doctor about lowering your long acting and ask about half unit pens. They are typically for children, but if you let them know how sensitive you are, they should be able to prescribe them to you!
