Strategies for Knitting/Crocheting with Hypermobility Syndrome

Those who live with hypermobility syndrome. I have a bit of a strange question to ask. If you knit or crochet what strategies do use when your hand cramps up?

If my hand starts to cramp I usually try to massage it out a bit and take a few minutes break to gently stretch my hand, if I'm having trouble with my fingers feeling unstable I've started using a little bit of kt tape to support those joints!

❤️ rest!! Your project isn't going anywhere. I like to stretch and massage the cramping muscle and leave my work for at least an hour.

i love having a good stressball to squeeze every 5 minutes or so to help move my muscles before cramping happens, and also it’s important to take breaks! i do embroidery so it’s a little less wrist work but the advice should still help

I also switched to embroidery and if I'm doing thin fabrics, like just a decorative hoop, I have much less trouble than I did with crocheting. Recently got into those diamond art things too, very tedious and satisfying!

I actually do origami daily, and it keeps my hands and wrists and elbows loose and flexible. When I go for days without doing origami, I get pains in my elbows and sometimes my hands. It's kind of like physical therapy for me. If I spend too much time in a row, like over 3 hours of folding, it can cause my hands to cramp a little. I just limit my time with daily folding sessions.

Compression gloves worked for me for quite some a few years, but I did eventually have to give up the craft.
