What are your methods for staying in the present?

I'm extremely hypersensitive so often times I actually try to avoid being present. It's alot easier to manage my environment when I'm either spacing out or having a random conversation with myself

Count my blessings. Sometimes they are had to see, but they are there. Gratefulness helps me much of the time.

To do lists and general preparations. Simple, small, large , and general goals. It gets easier over time.

I try to keep myself distracted. I've been stuck in my head and my thoughts for the last 2 months, and I feel like I've been in there long enough. So I've been trying to find other things to do to distract me. I have a guinea pig as an emotional support animal now so it helps a lot.

I use my family to help me stay in the present because they know if I get a glazed over look in my eyes, I'm going to my past when I was bullied via texting in 8th grade

Tapping on wood, the stimulation just feels good and I can focus on how it feels to ground me. Other solid materials can help too, but I really like wood. Burying my face into something really soft is also heavenly.

Mindfulness. I try to stay aware of my surroundings, my mood and my body. I'm constantly checking in with myself. It's a habit I've developed over years. I also try to give myself grace and care. Keeps me centered and present.

I stay by myself and write in my journal my feelings. The crazy thing is Even when I want to write how I really feel but I can't because I don't want to hurt people's feelings that I love

Try to focus on the people around me and what they have to say. Also, I try to drown out any daydreams.

I get out of touch with reality alot, so I had to learn how to bring myself back. Speaking outloud to someone or yourself helps alot. Get on the same page with yourself.

if you mean physically, then I've heard eating sour food or touching ice can ground you. to stay present within myself and mental health, i try to cause as little harm as i can and take life day by day, put good where i can and be happy about that ☮ (anyone reading: physical & mental illness can make you feel like a burden, but u are not a burden, may the world not treat u too harshly & present more beautiful days)

focus on one body part one at a time. (Example: how do your toes feel? Wiggle them. Be aware of your toes. Then go to your ankles. .. legs… hips.. belly, etc etc.)

Considering my values when I get anxious or wound up. I value my present time because of who I am with and the opportunity I have so redirect myself and ride the wave. Journalling also helps a lot.

I used to have an emotional support cat that would keep me Grounded and present until he got stolen from me. Now I struggle most days since I'm not allowed to have any pets at my grandmother's.

I think about Eckart Tolle. His words remind me to be present for my life.
